If you were born in Canada at any point before 1992 you will probably remember the old commercial “Don’t you put it in your mouth”. What I’d like to know is; when did we decide we were old enough to stop taking the old advice of making sure we know what something is before we ingest it?
Ever since I started working for Our Pleasure I’ve heard of men taking all kinds of different drugs to help them achieve stronger harder erections. Now let me start off by saying that I am all for people taking natural or prescribed stimulants for sexual arousal! I’ve taken Forta for women that we sell before just to give my partner an extra special night!
Believe me I’ve had a nice cooked breakfast for it the following morning ;)
But what I’m not for is people taking random dangerous drugs that they know nothing about.
Last week I got a shock at how far people will really go to get that libido boost. I know that people buy Viagra or Cialis on the street when their doctor won’t prescribe it for them and I know that people will order all kinds of pills online depending on which website ranks them the best. However, what I didn’t know was that people are injecting and snorting drugs that are NOT approved by the FDA in order to achieve an erection. Seriously, am I the only person who thinks that there’s something seriously wrong with that scenario? I was working with another girl last week when a man came into the store looking for PT-141. Neither of us had heard of the drug before so we asked him what it was because we may have something comparable but he told us that it was a powder that you inject or snort to give you a long lasting erection. Now obviously we explained to him that we were a sexual health store not a pharmacy so we don’t sell anything that is intended for injection but we still had to look it up to see what it was all about. PT-141 or Bremelanotide was tested as a sunless tanner but its main side effect was an increase in libido. Palatin technologies decided to test it as a sexual dysfunction drug for men and women that effect’s the nervous system instead of the vascular system. The idea sounds great, except for the fact that the FDA would not approve it due to the effects it had on blood pressure. What’s the point in getting a huge erection if you pass out from high blood pressure right?
I did a little digging online to see what reactions people had and these were the top complaints that I could find:
1. The skin turns bright red and your body feels like it’s being flushed
2. Extreme nausea and cramping in the abdominal area
3. A spontaneous erection but with no increased libido
4. Difficulty and a burning feeling when urinating
Now I’m not a man but I’m thinking if I was and I had to go through all that just to get a hard on Id be pretty pissed. At least with Forta or Viagra you have a time frame to work with. Some people don’t even get their erection from PT-141 for 12-15 hours if at all!
I’m honestly not trying to knock any kind of drug that people are interested in taking, or the efforts they’re taking to develop this drug because if it works that’s great! Nor am I trying to convince you to come into the store and spend your money on Forta even though I think it’s an amazing enhancement pill!
All I’m trying to say is that we need to be careful.
Never inject or snort something without first speaking to your doctor because you don’t know the side effects that it could have on you. If the FDA is not passing something there is probably a very good reason why.
So remember boys and girls, “If you don’t know just what it is, Don’t put it in your mouth!”
P.S. I bet that song is going to be stuck in your head all day isn’t it!!!
