Period sex. A monthly bliss, or taboo subject? Whether or not to have sex on your period has become a serious debate, with some people screaming YES while others are an adamant NO! Some women think that having sex on their period is gross, messy, and worst of all, that their partner won’t enjoy it. Before you make up your mind on the age old debate, check out our 10 things you should know about period sex below!
Doctors say it’s A-okay
As long as you and your partner is comfortable, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a romp during your monthly’s. It’s healthy and normal for both partners!
You shouldn’t need lubricant!
If you’re somebody who ordinarily needs a little bit of help, fret not when your Aunt Flo comes to visit! Period blood makes a great lubricant on its own!
Clumping is completely normal
Just had a great period quickie and you’re finding dark clumps afterwards? Completely normal! It’s just some of the uteral lining coming out – not a big deal at all.
You might love it!
Studies show that women can be more aroused during the 3rd day of their period – which is the ideal time to have sex!
Your partner probably won’t be as grossed out as you think
If you’re at all curious or worried simply talk to your partner! A little conversation can go a long way, and you might find out that they’re not as worried about it as you are!
You can minimize mess!
Put down a towel to help prevent stains. Wear a female condom to help ease on the blood flow, or have your partner wear a condom for easy clean up for them! (Hint: you bleed during sex less than you think, unless you’re a heavy bleeder!)
You have options!
If the idea of sex during your period is an uncomfortable thought, that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy yourself. Wear a tampon to stop blood flow and have you or your partner focus on clitoral stimulation!
Contrary to popular belief, you CAN get pregnant while on your period. If you’re practicing safe sex, make sure to use protection even during that time of the month!
Sex can help with cramps!
Orgasms help with cramp relief – end of story!
Sex can shorten your period!
When you have an orgasm, your uterus contracts. This contracting causes the uteral lining to come out faster, meaning shorter periods!
All in all, period sex seems like a pretty sweet deal!
